Jim Anderson conducts research and teaches in the areas of early literacy and family literacy. He led a 3 three year family literacy project called Parents As Literacy Supporters in Immigrant Communities with Fiona Morrison that involved more than 500 preschoolers and their families from four linguistic groups in five communities. With colleagues Ann Anderson, Jan Hare and Marianne McTavish he organized a SSHRC sponsored workshop involving local, national and international scholars in early childhood. They produced an edited volume, Language, Learning and Culture in Early Childhood: Home, School and Community Contexts (Routledge, 2016). And with the same colleagues, he is conducting a SSHRC sponsored study, Young Children’s Engagement with Digital Tools and Technology at Home and in the Community, in socially disadvantaged communities.
